In collaboration with ArtOrg from Northfield, Minn., the Museum presents a spectacular art-making event you won’t want to miss. A full-size steamroller will be driven over printing plates to create mural-sized prints, right on 7th Street in front of the Museum building. Luis Fitch, Alexa Horochowski, Gustavo Lira, Doug Padilla, Tina Tavera, and Xavier Tavera, all artists from Twin Cities Latino art collective Grupo Soap del Carazon, designed the print imagery based on Day of the Dead traditions. Day of the Dead is an annual Latino holiday held in early November that honors the memories of people who have died, ranging from family and friends to public figures. Prints made on the steamroller weekend will then be displayed in the Museum galleries, along with prints made by area youth. Later this fall, Tina and Xavier Tavera will create an “ofrenda,” a traditional display of artifacts, photographs, flowers, and more that honors the dead.
